New York City Mayor Eric Adams has sounded the alarm as thousands of migrants continue to flood the city, demanding Joe Biden declare a national emergency at the border.
In a briefing on Wednesday about the state of the city’s finances, Adams warned the influx of migrants could cost the city $12 billion.
“So we continue to do an average of twenty-five hundred a week, five thousand every two weeks, ten thousand a month,” Adams said.
“You don’t have to be a mathematician to understand what this is doing to our city,” he said.
There are 57,300 migrants in the city, with an estimated 100,000 that will need services by June 2025.
Adams admitted that the massive increase in migrants could cost the city as much as $12 billion over the next three years.
Watch
Adams demanded the government reimburse the city for some of the massive costs, and declare a national emergency at the border.
“The city is running out of money, appropriate space, and personnel,” Adams said.
The Mayor also said the federal government needed a “decompression strategy” to make sure migrants are spread out across the US fairly.
“We have 108,000 cities, villages, towns, if everyone takes a small portion of that, and if it’s coordinated at the border, to ensure that those who are coming here to this country, in a lawful manner, is actually moved throughout the entire country is not a burden on one city,” Adams said in May.
Following the expiration of Title 42, the Trump-era rule that enabled the prompt removal of illegal immigrants to save and guard public health ended, New York has been flooded with border crossers.
Meanwhile, outraged residents are protesting against migrants taking up city spaces and services.
Activist Power Malu told WABC-TV that providing housing for the homeless could help the crisis.
“I think one of the solutions that’s not being talked about is moving the unhoused community that have been hostages in the shelter system for years into dignified housing, and that will free up space,” Malu said.
However, some critics said Adams’ remarks proved Republicans right about how Democrat politicians do not take the immigration crisis seriously until it’s on their doorsteps.

WOW! A full 57,500 immigrants!
That is slightly more than 1% 0f the 4.9 million illegals in Texas (as determined in 2019 by the American Immigration Council).
Boo-Frigging-Hoo!
And it’s 0.6 percent of the population of Eric Adamsville. (Don’t they need those people to replace all the taxpayers and police who are fleeing that city?)
