Almost 700 migrants from China have been apprehended for illegally crossing the California border from Mexico, according to new reports.
The number only includes those caught in the San Diego region during the third week of April.

A CBP source, not authorized to speak to the media, told Breitbart Texas the number of Chinese migrants apprehended represents a more than threefold increase from the same time last year. The source told Breitbart that China is now within the top ten nationalities encountered by the Border Patrol along the southern border.
The bulk of the Chinese nationals are released into the United States almost immediately the source says as China adamantly refuses to take their citizens back.
“We have only conducted one repatriation flight back to China recently,” the source lamented.
“Until that changes, unless we have specific derogatory information about an individual, we are releasing. There’s just no other option.”

The agency remains baffled by the continued increase in Chinese migrant arrivals. Twice as many PRC nationals entered Southern California during the third week of April than the entire 2021 fiscal year when a total of 342 PRC nationals were encountered by the Border Patrol along the entire Southwest border. According to the source, intelligence debriefings yield little information about the migrants and their entry purpose. The language barrier and the sheer volume of crossings and apprehensions is a major challenge according to the source.
“We want to focus on the threats posed by the Government of China and not cast aspersions on all the people of China, but governments are people and at this point,” the CBP source told the outlet.
“We are in the dark concerning who is a foe and who is a friend.”
During the first six months of the 2024 fiscal year, the CBP has apprehended apprehended 24,296 Chinese migrants, an all-time high.

About 4.2 percent (1.65 million) of California’s entire population is composed of Chinese people, according to Census data. Between 2010 and 2020, Chinese Americans—the largest Asian group in the state— grew by 33 percent, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Those who identify as Asian grew by 25 percent, now making up approximately 17 percent of California residents.
The Migration Policy Institute says that Chinese immigration to the U.S. has accelerated for multiple reasons, including economic conditions and escaping poverty coupled with individuals wanting more religious and cultural freedom.
“Although China’s migrant populations have grown, the legal and institutional framework for managing them has lagged,” the Institute wrote in a January 2022 report.
“Policy has focused on attracting top professionals, return migrants, and foreign students, but a more robust system expanding migrant rights and encompassing lower-skilled workers and others has been slow to materialize, due to political sensitivities and a notoriously fragmented and opaque bureaucracy that has been dominated by security authorities.”
Earlier this year, Republican lawmakers sounded the alarm about the border security threat from China.
Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, gave a stark warning during a discussion at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this week.

“I think every American should be scared to death. Not only is it the terrorist threat, we’ve had almost 400 [suspected terrorists] in this presidency, where there were 11 last time, but it the 24,000 Chinese nationals who came in last year, 20,000 Since October 1, the highest year. Before that was 1800,” he said.
“You don’t leave China with the social credit score system unless the CCP knows about it.”
“They’re flying to South America and Central America and they’re coming up here; they’re paying $60,000 to the cartels, which is enriching the cartels, terrible organizations, they’re subhuman,” he added.
“And we’re basically feeding them money and letting these individuals come into the United States,” he added.
