A mysterious white dust fell from the sky across Maryland and West Virginia earlier this month, leaving residents and officials baffled.
The white dust-like substance coated cars and gardens as social media users reported the powder on vehicles and in the air in the two states.
The reports have sparked an investigation by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.

The department in Maryland is working with state and local agencies to analyze samples to determine the mysterious white dust.
West Virginia residents in the Eastern Panhandle area reported seeing the powder in several counties on Thursday night, The Daily Mail reported.
The Maryland Department of the Environment believes the substance originated from New Mexico and Texas.
“This is likely dust from the desert southwest, a very strong storm system causing all the wintry weather across the northern US and severe weather in the southern US,” DC News Now meteorologist Damon Matson said.
“It picked up the dust on the back side of the storm and dragged it across the country,” he added.
“The dust remained elevated in the atmosphere as the storm remained strong.”
According to some social media users in Maryland, small planes were witnesses dropping the white substance overnight.
“My friend in Maryland saw a small plane dropping white dust this morning. Something weirds going on,” one user claimed.

If you believe this, then by all means, please check yourself into a hospital to have a scan done to see if you have ANY brain cells left!!!! If that dust was coming from the Desert Southwest it would be TAN in color; not WHITE!!! As it is, there’s not a h**l of a lot of dust out here in the DSW, as it’s been RAINING almost DAILY for WEEKS!!!

If there is a plane, get the tail number. If it is dropping dust it won’t be from a high altitude.
Dust isn’t white,it’s always at least a light tan color, because it’s dirt. Ashes are white. This is most likely from a fire somewhere. As for it being dropped from small planes, that happens fairly often when people disperse the ashes of a loved one. My father’s ashes and my brother’s were, for example, but small planes can’t carry enough to “blanket Maryland”, that sounds a little hysterical.

I agree with the other commenters… It’s either from the toxic cloud created by the RR when they burned the chemicals in the train crash in East Palestine, Ohio – and, or – chemtrails… Either way, the gov’t will NOT be honest about when the composition of the “ash” is, nor it’s origin – nor expected effects on humans & animals.
I’d bet more than half of the commentors on this very page have genetically modified food products latent with chemicals and pesticides in their pantries, and probably use round up and other pesticides on their lawns and gardens, their bath soaps and toothpastes, chemicals you have no idea what they actually do in your cabinets. Half of the world literally just injected unknown substances directly into their veins, and systematically applies such treatments to their own children. And now you’re going to be worried about the chemical rains outside. Well, at least you are starting to pay attention.
