Mitch McConnell Comes Out in Support of Biden's $106 Billion in Aid for Ukraine, Israel

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he agrees with Joe Biden on funding the Ukraine and Israel wars by bundling the aid together.

During Sunday’s segment of CBS’s “Face the Nation,” host Margaret Brennan asked McConnell, “Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell has not done many interviews this year, but he invited us to Capitol Hill Friday to talk about President Biden’s request to Congress for $100 billion in aid for Ukraine, Israel and US border security. And that’s where our conversation began.”

McConnell responded:

“We have big power competition from China, and Russia and we still have terrorism problems, as the Israelis have certainly experienced in a brutal way in the last week.”

“So I think that requires a worldwide approach rather than trying to take parts of it out. It’s all connected,” McConnell said.

“The Chinese and the Russians said they’re now friends forever. Iranian drones are being used in Ukraine and against the Israelis.”

Brennan asked:

“There’s resistance among some Republicans, including here in the Senate, about bundling things together. Is it possible to pass Ukraine aid if it’s not tied to Israel?”

McConnell:

“I just think that’s a mistake. I mean, I know there are some Republicans in the Senate, and maybe more in the House, saying Ukraine is somehow different. I view it as all interconnected.”

Brennan said, “And you’ve said that you believe there is enough oversight of aid to Ukraine. Why hasn’t that persuaded some members of the- of the Republican caucus?”

McConnell:

“If you look at the Ukraine assistance, let’s- let’s talk about where the money is really going.”

“A significant portion of its being spent in the United States in 38 different states, replacing the weapons that we sent to Ukraine with more modern weapons. So we’re rebuilding our industrial base.”

“That’s what President Biden is seeking to do,” Brennan interjected.

“It’s- it’s correct,” McConnell responded.

“No Americans are getting killed in Ukraine. We’re rebuilding our industrial base. The Ukrainians are destroying the army of one of our biggest rivals.”

“I have a hard time finding anything wrong with that. I think it’s wonderful that they’re defending themselves- and also the notion that the Europeans are not doing enough,” McConnell added.

“They’ve done almost 90 billion dollars, they’re housing a bunch of refugees who escaped. I think that our NATO allies in Europe have done quite a lot.

Brennan said, “You sound like you have a lot in common with President Biden, and his worldview, based on what you just laid out.”

“Well, not on the domestic side, but on this issue that we- we’re discussing today, we’re generally in the same place,” McConnell replied.

Brennan continued:

“On the issue of Israel, that does seem to be a unifying issue for many Republicans, and I want to ask you about this 10 billion dollar request the President is making. Do you think there needs to be any provisions in there that would account for the risk of human rights- human rights violations in Gaza?”

McConnell responded:

“Well, we want to make sure we’re not sending money to Hamas. I can tell you that.”

“But there are genuine humanitarian needs of the people of Gaza who are not Hamas, who’ve been thrown under the bus by what Hamas did,” he added.

“Innocent people. But we want to be careful about how the money is spent, be sure it actually gets where it’s supposed to get.”

Watch

Brennan asked, “For any military aid that’s going to Israel right now, do you think there needs to be- need to be strings attached?”

“Israel is our strongest ally in the world,” McConnell said.

“We trust them, and we have a very tight relationship with them both on the intelligence side and the military side.”

“So I don’t think the kind of oversight we’re talking about for Ukraine, for example, would be necessary for Israel.”

Dan Bongino Drops Bombshell with Stunning Revelation on Secret Service Failures Surrounding Tump Shooting Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino made a stunning revelation about security failures which led to former president Donald Trump coming within inches of being assassinated. During an appearance on Donald Trump Jr.'s podcast "Triggered," Bongino revealed that the rooftop from which the failed Trump assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks fired shots, was supposed to be covered by law enforcement personnel. Bongino revealed he was told this by an "unimpeachable source" who was knowledgeable about the situation. "That post, according to my source, that roof was supposed to be a police post. It was supposed to be someone there," he said. "They're now making up excuses, saying the pitch of the roof… my source says to me, no one knows why the post didn't show up," Bongino revealed. He added that Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle has been instructed by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to "keep her mouth shut if she wants to remain in her post. Cheatle has refused to resign from her post following the aftermath of the assassination attempt. The Secret Service identified a high-profile security vulnerability in the building but failed to protect the rooftop. Moreover, security forces did not take notice of Crooks roughly 30 minutes before the shooting. One law enforcement asset even managed to snap a photo of the suspect, though he was not confronted. Cheatle attempted to explain why the rooftop wasn't covered. "That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put somebody up on a sloped roof," the Secret Service director said in a statement to ABC News. "And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside." "They're not putting that out there. But if you get those site post logs and those police instructions and it was a post on there and they didn't show up and no one checked, someone could have got your dad killed," Bongino said. "Within millimeters." Bongino said he would be revealing more details on his podcast. ""You're telling me the best technology you have was deployed and you missed a shooter 130 yards? Say it was 200 yards," Bongino told Fox News. The Secret Service CS team, Pete, the counter-sniper team? And I'm not sure those two guys are Secret Service. We have to remember that we don't always, when we go to New York sometimes with high-level protectees we'll use NYPD ESU counter-sniper. So I'm not really sure." "Either way, they'd still be briefed in. The question we have to ask is, if that's the best technology we have, and we had a CS team up there with a shooter that, you know, we're trained out to a thousand yards in the Secret Service with the counter-sniper team. How did they miss someone at most, you know, one-fifth of the way there? It doesn't make any sense."
