Former Vice President Mike Pence blasted President Donald Trump on his foreign policy, accusing his former boss of “talking the language of appeasement” of Russia.
During Sunday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “MediaBuzz,” host Howard Kurtz asked, “Here’s what I don’t get. You’re constantly praising the four-year conservative record of the Trump-Pence administration.”
“Now you turn around and say that you’re the real conservative in the race and that Donald Trump is offering, and this is a quote, a siren song of populism unmoored from true conservatism. How is that possible? Did he morph into something else?” Kurtz asked.
Pence responded, “When Donald Trump ran for president in 2016, he promised to govern as a conservative. For four years we governed as conservatives.”
“We rebuilt our military. We stood strong on the world stage. We exercised American leadership. We stood with our allies, stood up to our enemies,” Pence continued.
“Our military took down the ISIS caliphate. We stood with Israel as never before. We took down,” Pence added.
“Not a long list?” Kurtz asked
Pence replied, “Qasem Soleimani. Here at home, we cut taxes, we rolled back regulations, and we appointed conservatives to our courts at every level, including three of the justices that sent Roe vs. Wade to the ash heap of history. We governed as conservatives.”
Pence continued:
“But I will tell you what voters deserve to know is that Donald Trump makes no such promise today.”
“He’s backing away from America as leader of the free world, talking the language of appeasement in the face of Russian aggression in Eastern Europe and the war raging in Ukraine,” Pence said of Trump.
“With regard to entitlements, Howie, Donald Trump’s position is identical to Joe Biden’s. Neither one of them even want to talk about what’s mostly driving security.”
Earlier this week, Pence warned that American troops will be forced to fight Russia if it succeeds in its efforts to conquer Ukraine and win the war.
“I’m convinced that if the Ukrainian military doesn’t stop and repel that Russian invasion, it’s not going to be too long before that Russian army crosses a border that our men and women in uniform are going to have to go and fight under our NATO Treaty,” Pence said.
“Give [Ukraine] the resources that they need to fight and to win and to drive that Russian military back… Because it’s in our interests and I think, ultimately, it’s in the interests of peace and security in the world,” Pence asserted.
Watch
In contrast to Mike Pence, President Donald Trump has vowed to end the Ukraine war with Russia within 24 hours should he should be reelected.
But Pence said such a development would require capitulating to the Kremlin.
