Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) has urged Hispanic Floridians not to vote for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis just hours after he entered the GOP presidential primary field.
“I ask the Hispanics in Florida not to give one single vote [to Ron DeSantis],” López Obrador said.
“Do not vote for those who persecute migrants,” the Mexican president added, referring to Ron DeSantis in his daily press briefing.
AMLO recently became a problem for Joe Biden after he refused to acknowledge Mexico’s role in the fentanyl overdose crisis plaguing the United States.
Fentanyl precursor chemicals shipped from China are frequently synthesized into the deadly drug in Mexico before being trafficked to the U.S.
It isn’t clear if AMLO would instead prefer Florida Hispanics to vote for former President Donald Trump or another candidate in next year’s primary.
On Wednesday, Trump blasted DeSantis before his presidential campaign launch, declaring the Florida governor doomed to fail in the general election after voting to overhaul entitlement programs.
As the Daily Fetched reported, Trump highlighted DeSantis’s support of legislation that hit Social Security and Medicare during his time in Congress:
“Ron DeSantis can’t win the General Election (or get the Nomination) because he VOTED TO OBLITERATE SOCIAL SECURITY, EVEN WANTING TO RAISE THE MINIMUM AGE TO 70 (or more!), VOTED TO BADLY WOUND MEDICARE, FOUGHT HARD, AND VOTED FOR A 23% “TAX ON EVERYTHING” SALES TAX,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump added that DeSantis “was, and is, a disciple of horrible RINO Paul Ryan, and others too many to mention.”
“He desperately needs a personality transplant, and, to the best of my knowledge, they are not medically available yet,” Trump added.
