Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot posted a video of her singing karaoke on TikTok as violent crime in her city reaches epidemic levels with a 37% increase compared to 2021.
Lightfoot made the TikTok video to promote Chicago’s karaoke competition.
“It’s time to sing your hearts out, Chicago! Our karaoke competition is starting Sunday and will go until Nov. 6th. Now’s your time to shine,” the video caption on Lightfoot’s TikTok states.
The lightness of the video is a harsh contrast to the soaring crime in Chicago, as the city saw a 37% increase in violent crime compared to the same time in 2021.
According to statistics from the Chicago Police Department, more violent crimes being reported in Chicago in 2022 than every year since 2018.
The number of motor vehicle thefts also jumped by 74%.
The number of thefts reported has increased by 61%.

On Monday, Lightfoot unveiled her proposed City Hall budget, which included an increase in the Chicago Police Department’s budget by $64 million – an apparent u-turn on her previous stance on defunding the police.

Lightfoot said the increase will be used to “fund our consent decree obligations, as well as replacement of the aging vehicle fleet, new technologies for @Chicago_Police & the department & the replacement of CPD helicopters.”
Last weekend, thirty-three people were shot, five fatally, in Chicago.
Breitbart News notes that 21 people were shot, four of them fatally, Friday into Saturday night alone.
One of the shooting fatalities on Friday was a three-year-old boy shot and killed during an apparent road rage incident.
The total number of shooting fatalities had risen to five by Monday morning, with 33 shooting victims, The Chicago Sun-Times reports.
