Police in Pennsylvania have arrested a man who attempted to read a Bible verse during a public Pride event.
The man in question was Damon Atkins, who attempted to read 1 Corinthians 14:33 from the Bible when police quickly descended on him before he was later arrested.
The Bible verse reads the following:
“For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.”
“Let them have their day. Respect it,” an officer told the man.
“You know who’s cheering for us? The people that are in hell,” Atkins responded to the police officer.
Following the interaction, officers stood between Atkins and the crowd at the pride event.
But when Atkins again began reading the Bible verse, an officer snapped, “That’s it. You’re done,” and he was arrested.
According to The Daily Caller, Police said the man was not arrested for reading the Bible verse but for his noise levels while doing so.
“He was not arrested for reading a bible verse,” a representative for the chief of police told the Caller.
“He was arrested for being disorderly.”
“His volume was at a level that he was heckling a preplanned and permitted event,” the spokesperson continued.
“He was given an area he was allowed to protest in and was asked to keep the volume at a level that was not problematic, or that was inciting public inconvenience.”
