Ageing pop star Madonna is adding a Tennessee tour stop to support trans-rights organizations in the wake of Monday’s shooting at a Christian School by a member of the transgender community.
Maddona’s tour stop comes amid the state passing historic anti-LGBTQ+ legislation which banned drag shows for children and gender-affirming health care for transgender youth.
The performer said her Tennessee show is intended to celebrate the trans and drag communities.
“The oppression of the LGBTQ+ is not only unacceptable and inhumane; it’s creating an unsafe environment; it makes America a dangerous place for our most vulnerable citizens, especially trans women of color,” Madonna wrote on Instagram.
She added:
“Also, these so-called laws to protect our children are unfounded and pathetic. Anyone with half a brain knows not to f–k with a drag queen. Bob [the Drag Queen] and I will see you from the stage in Nashville, where we will celebrate the beauty that is the queer community.”
The news comes less than a day after the horrific shooting at a Christian School in Nashville, Tennessee.
As The Daily Fetched reported, the shooter was identified as Audrey Hale, a member of the transgender community who identified as he/him. According to reports, Hale had previously attended the Christian school as well.
The active shooter was reported at Covenant School located at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
The shooter was confronted by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) and is now confirmed dead.
Nashville Fire Department tweeted:
“We are responding to an active aggressor at 33 Burton Hills Blvd Covenant School. We can confirm we have multiple patients.Parents coming to the school should go to 20 Burton Hills at this time. this is an active scene.”
