Longtime CNN host Chris Cillizza has broken from his media counterparts, calling attention to Vice President Kamala Harris‘ “basement strategy” following her newly announced running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Cillizza noted that Harris’ goal to bolster the Democrat ticket has come amid concerns about her apparent reluctance to engage directly with the media.
“Kamala Harris has been the de facto presidential nominee for two weeks now. In that time, as best as I can tell, she has done zero media interviews and held zero press conferences (or even taken random questions from reporters),” Cillizza tweeted.

In that time, as best as I can tell, she has done zero media interviews and held zero press conferences (or even taken random questions from reporters).
Cillizza, who served as an editor-at-large for CNN, remains a prominent voice in American political journalism, giving his remarks about Harris significant weight.
It’s also worth noting that Harris hasn’t faced the media once since Joe Biden stepped out of the 2024 race.
The Democrat front-runner gave only a brief nod to the press as she and Biden welcomed home Americans from a prisoner swap with Russia.
Democrats were all but demanding Biden follow the same playbook just weeks ago.
Now, Harris’s team is hesitant to put her in front of the press.
What are they scared of?
Below are some reactions on X:
She can't even face basic scrutiny. Major red flag for even the slowest minds.
