White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told a blatant lie when pressed on whether the White House waited too long to engage with Republicans on a deal to circumvent the default on the national debt.
Here is what she said:
However, Jean-Pierre’s claim that Biden has been trying to engage with Republicans for months was not true.
According to various reports, the White House repeatedly refused to negotiate on the debt ceiling, despite what Karine Jean-Pierre claims.
Even Red State writer Ben Kew took it upon himself to fact-check Jean-Pierre in a recent article.
As Kew writes:
The funny thing about the internet is that what is put on it stays there forever. So while Jean-Pierre may be able to gaslight the mostly compliant press in the room who won’t dare fact-check her, the rest of us can simply use our search engine thingies and do it ourselves.
It took me less than a minute to find the contradictory clip shortly after her latest comments were made. Townhall also put together a helpful montage for those who want to make sure the quotes are accurate.
To give you even more proof that Jean-Pierre is lying, Reuters also reported earlier this month Biden confirmed he would not negotiate on the debt ceiling.
Meanwhile, The Washington Post also reported that the White House had “reiterated” its refusal to enter negotiations.
The clip of Jean-Pierre is from May 12th, barely two weeks before her claim that Biden was trying to engage all along.
