Jacksonville Sheriff TK Waters stated on Sunday that guns are not bad, but some individuals who cause shootings are.
Waters’s remarks came a day after a suspect in his 20s allegedly shot and killed three people in a Jacksonville Dollar General store.
In a video posted by Breaking 911, Waters said:
“The Story’s always about guns. People are bad; this guy’s a bad guy. [But] if I take my gun off right now and lay it on this counter, nothing will happen.”
“It’ll sit there — but as soon as wicked person grabs ahold of that handgun and starts shooting people with it — there’s the problem.”
Waters is right. A mentally unstable man caused the shooting, not the gun.

The suspect was allegedly armed with a handgun and an AR-15-style rifle.
The gunman was a 21-year-old who bought his guns legally and had no criminal history, local law enforcement said on Sunday, reuters reported.
The gunman also left a will and a suicide note that were retrieved by his father, the Jacksonville sheriff said.
However, police still have not clarified which gun he used in the deadly attack.
The suspect took his own life after shooting the three individuals.
