Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) has warned President Joe Biden he is facing losing support from key Democratic voter constituencies.
Omar told KCCO-TV that she recently spoke with Biden about her stance on the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, emphasizing that Biden is risking his re-election if he does not fall in line with her position on the war.
Omar’s remarks came as an increasing number of progressives have begun speaking out against Biden’s support for Israel.
For example, Muslim voters are now threatening to “abandon Biden” in 2024 if he does not support the ceasefire in Gaza, Fox News reported.
“I recently had a conversation with the president. Muslims were pivotal to his election — they mobilized in all the key states. Young people were very instrumental in him getting elected,” Omar told KCCO.
“And what I reminded him was that he needs to listen to these voices,” she said.
“People are heartbroken. It’s been really hard to have conversations about politics and policy. People just want the images of young children’s bodies that are piling up to end and they want our support for this to end,” Omar added.
Biden’s government has been reluctant to support a ceasefire mainly due to Israel being a top ally of the US.
Further, a ceasefire would likely be temporary.
Watch
Earlier this year, Omar was asked if she is okay with Hamas terrorists continuing to exist.
The question came after Omar promoted refuted reports that Israel bombed a hospital, killing 500 people.
Fox News correspondent Hillary Vaughn confronted Omar on Capitol Hill, asking:
“Congresswoman, you have called for a ceasefire, are you okay with Hamas terrorists continuing to exist?” Fox News correspondent Hillary Vaughn asked Omar.
Omar refuses to answer.
“Do you think that Israel should just lay down their arms and not try to get the hostages out of Gaza?” Vaughn pressed.
Omar had no response.
