At 7:06 a.m. local time, which was six minutes after the formal expiration of the truce, Israel resumed its combat operations against the terrorist group.
The attacks came despite reports that Egypt and Qatar had negotiated an eighth day of hostage and prisoner releases.
The attacks come despite urging the White House for an extension of the “pause” in fighting against Israel’s future war plans, Breitbart reported.
Israeli Prime Minister’s Office has released a statement, saying Hamas had failed to live up to its obligations under the truce, which also included a commitment to release all female hostages.
The statement read:
“Amid the return to combat, we stress the government of Israel is committed to achieving the goals of the war — releasing our hostages, eliminating Hamas and ensuring that Gaza can never again threaten the people of Israel.”
Hours before the attack, US State Antony Blinken urged Israel to be careful about Palestinian civilians.
Blinken also told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US would not support taking the final steps to defeat Hamas by attacking it in the southern Gaza Strip.
He also said Israel lacked the “credit” to spend the several months it would take to end Hamas.
However, Hamas took advantage of the truce by regrouping from weeks of attacks by the IDF and contained the humanitarian aid and fuel provided to the Gaza Strip.
Hamas also produced propaganda videos showing Hamas supporters humiliating Israeli hostages while hostages were forced to say, on camera, that they had been treated well.
It also boosted support by obtaining the release of more than 200 terrorists from Israeli prisons.
Additionally, Hamas widened the gap between the Biden administration and the Netanyahu government.
However, Israel managed to secure the release of almost all the child hostages, including the Arab and Muslim cones.
Roughly 140 hostages are left, primarily men and soldiers.
The pause also allowed IDF reservists to rest and to regroup.
Last month, Israeli leaders vowed to “crush and destroy” Hamas in Gaza as authorities ordered residents to evacuate to the south.
The Times of Israel they were reported that the IDF used riot dispersal measures to prevent Palestinians from returning to the northern part of the Strip amid the pause in fighting.
