French police opened fire on a veiled woman who shouted “Allahu Akbar” while making death threats at a train station in Paris on Tuesday.

“Police fired because they feared for their safety,” the source said.
Officers arrived on the scene after reports of a woman making threats on public transport.

When police arrived, “they pulled the woman aside and first asked her to calm down but also to show her hands to show they presented no particular danger,” he added.
“What happened then was that law enforcement officers had no option but to open fire on this woman given the danger of the situation.”
After the woman failed to respond to police warnings, the officers opened fire.
The Paris prosecutor’s office said the woman had threatened to blow herself up.
The woman is being treated for her injuries in a Paris hospital, Reuters reported.

According to witnesses, the woman, who was completely veiled, shouted “Allahu akbar” (“God is Greatest”).
The incident occurred between 8:30 and 9:30 am on the RER C line in central Paris, at the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand stop, in the 13th district.
The woman was shot and held by police after refusing to follow their order to stop.
Citing a police source, AFP reports say that police were warned by calls from passengers who indicated a “completely veiled” woman who was “uttering threats.”
The Metro and suburban train station in eastern Paris has been evacuated, police said.
The station was closed and traffic was slowed on the suburban rail line.
France has been under a growing “attack alert” after a teacher in the northern city of Arras was stabbed to death by a former pupil in, what was later described as an Islamist terror attack.
