Several former Obama administration aides raised the alarm about Joe Biden’s age and mental acuity, warning he is too “frail” to serve another term.
Three aides to the former president concluded Biden’s age is a valid issue as the 2024 election looms, voicing fears that Trump could take back the White House.
Chief speechwriter for former President Barack Obama, Jon Favreau, former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor weighed in on Biden’s goal in an episode of their “Pod Save America” podcast.
While discussing special counsel Robert Hur’s decision not to charge Biden with a crime following an investigation into his mishandling of classified documents, Favreau said the general consensus is that Biden is just a “frail” old man.
He also expressed concerns that a jury might have found Biden a somewhat sympathetic figure because of his age and memory issues.
“If you watch Joe Biden speak, oftentimes he sounds frail, and he sounds more frail than he used to, even in 2019 and 2020,” said Favreau.
While he said he didn’t believe Biden is cognitively compromised, he did say many Americans view him that way.
“The voice sounds frail, and he shuffles more because of the arthritis in his back. … He is mumbly, and I think that has an effect on people,” Favreau said.
He also pointed to recent polling showing that most Americans are concerned about Biden’s age.
Favreau added that even if the media stopped talking about Biden’s age tomorrow, “concerns would still be there.”
He added that Biden’s cognitive health is “a very real issue.”
This comes as polls show most people “worry Joe Biden is ineffective as president.”
Meanwhile, Lovett argued that Trump is painting Biden as weak, working against him keeping the White House.
“When world events seem like they are overtaking him and he’s not out there enough forcefully, that’s what’s getting people concerned,” Favreau said.
They concluded that Biden should make more public appearances to encourage public confidence.
“I’m sure that going out there means more missteps like confusing Mexico and Egypt … more gaffes that start circulating, but if you don’t view Biden being out there more as a net positive, then the argument he shouldn’t be running is right,” Lovett said.
Favreau also noted that Biden skipped the annual tradition of speaking to a reporter the morning of the Super Bowl, another sign of trouble for Biden.
As we highlighted, 86 percent of Americans believe Biden lacks the mental capacity to serve another term.
The Daily Fetched reported:
According to a poll by ABC News/Ipsos following the Special Counsel report that described Biden as “an elderly man with a poor memory,” meaning he should not be subject to charges from the classified documents scandal, Americans think Biden is incapable of serving.
The polls found 73 percent of Democrats think Biden is too old to serve.
A whopping 91 percent of Independents also feel Biden is too old.
Mainstream media outlets like ABC News attempted to cover for Biden by also claiming Donald Trump is too old to serve.
Rather than focusing on the issue hand, Biden’s age, the report goes to massive lengths to include Trump, noting that “the figure includes 59% of Americans who think both [Biden] and former President Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner, are too old and 27% who think only Biden is too old.”
