Gun ownership in the United States has hit a record high after a recent NBC News national poll revealed that a majority of respondents have a gun in their household, despite Joe Biden’s push for gun control.
In 2013, just 42% of Americans said someone in their household owned a gun.
In 2019, that number jumped to 46%.
Micah Roberts, from a Republican polling firm, said:
“In the last ten years, we’ve grown [10 points] in gun ownership. That’s a very stunning number.”
Roberts co-conducted the poll with members of Hart Research.
“By and large, things don’t change that dramatically that quickly when it comes to something as fundamental as whether you own a gun,” he added.
Meanwhile, a new Harvard poll showed six in ten voters believe owning a gun is necessary to protect their family.
The polls show Americans are rejecting the Biden White House’s push for more gun control measures.

“The Harvard poll shows that six in ten voters believe owning a gun is to protect themselves. Despite the strong anti-gun rights message from the White House and the media, the public seems to be moving significantly in the opposite direction.”
“The United States (by household) is now a majority gun-owning nation according to these polls.”
That could present an interesting dynamic going into the election in 2024,” he argued.
“While many rights are viewed as fairly abstract, gun ownership can give voters a tangible investment worth hundreds or thousands of dollars. Many have more than one gun,” he added.

“That gives them a real interest in a debate over limiting gun rights or banning weapons.”

Joe Biden has been relentlessly pushing for a ban on assault weapons, high-capacity magazines and requiring background checks for all firearm sales.
Earlier this year, Biden used the mass shooting at a Christian elementary school in Nashville to push for gun control measures.
“Those children should all be with us still,” Biden said before blasting Republicans.
“I want you to know who isn’t doing it [supporting gun control], who isn’t helping, to put pressure on them.”
In November, Biden signed an executive order to crack down on the gun industry, “moving the U.S. as close to universal background checks as possible without additional legislation.”
