Actor Adan Canto, known for starring in shows such as “The Cleaning Lady” and “Designated Survivor,” has died at the age of 42.
Canto died due to appendiceal cancer, his publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed via the Associated Press.
The actor recently starred in Fox’s drama series The Cleaning Lady, starring as the lead role in the first two seasons. However, Canto’s health did not allow him to film when production for the upcoming Season 3 started last year.
“Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever,” Allen noted in a statement, according to the outlet.
“He will be greatly missed by so many.”
Fox and WBTV said in a statement:
“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Adan Canto. A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in The Following more than a decade ago.”
“Most recently, he lit up the screen in The Cleaning Lady with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth, and vulnerability. This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones. We will miss Adan dearly.”
As Deadline noted, “Canto was Born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico in 1981 and raised in Texas, Canto left home at age 16 to pursue a career as a singer and guitarist in Mexico City. He started acting in local commercials and T.V. shows before being scouted for a major role in Kevin Williamson’s 2013 Fox drama series The Following.”
Canto died due to Appendiceal cancer.
The Mayo Clinic notes:
“Appendiceal cancer is a type of cancer that grows from cells that make up the appendix” and that it “is very rare.”
“In the U.S., it has been thought to affect about 1 or 2 people per 1 million per year. However, recent studies show that appendiceal cancer is becoming more common.”
“It is more common in people between the ages of 50 and 55 years old, but can happen at any age.”
“Designated Survivor” actor Kiefer Sutherland shared a photo of himself and Canto, writing:
“It seems lately I have had to make too many posts like this one, but I am heartbroken by the loss of Adan Canto.”
“He was such a wonderful spirit. As an actor his desire to do well, to be great, and then do better, was truly impressive and he will be greatly missed. I am also heartbroken for his wife, Steph and his two young children. Adan, may you rest in peace.”
Canto’s wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, shared a bible passage from Matthew 6:19-21 where Jesus commands not to store up treasure on earth, but in heaven.
“Forever my treasure Adan, see you soon,” she wrote.
