The House of Representatives voted on an amendment to a major energy bill that would block Biden’s Department of Energy from enforcing crushing regulations on gas stoves.
However, 9 Democrats defected against the White House’s stance on gas stoves.
As The DC Enquirer reported:
Gas stoves have become a cause célèbre due to the White House’s all-out war against fossil fuels and its desire to quickly transition to greener energy (but not nuclear energy).
This is best captured by the Secretary of Energy laughing on camera when she was asked about America resolving rising oil prices by boosting domestic oil production.
She went on to blame OPEC for the reason why prices were rising (this was before the blame was shifted to Russia).
Biden’s White House privately discussed the prospect of banning gas stoves out of purported safety concerns despite public statements to the contrary.
In the end, due to the sheer public outcry against a prospective ban, the administration decided to, in the words of one article, “push an extreme regulation that would effectively eliminate nearly all gas stoves” by imposing “extreme energy performance standards on residential cooktop.”
As noted by Fox News, around 40 million Americans (which amounts to 38 % of American households) use gas stoves.
The total vote for the amendment was 251 in its favor to 181 against. The amendment was introduced by Representative Gary Palmer (R-AK), who is the chair of the House Republican Policy Committee.
He blasted those Democrats who did not join in voting in favor of the amendment when he said that “[d]espite all their words to the contrary, House Democrats are supportive of federal bureaucrats’ attempts to ban gas stoves.
By voting against my amendment to prevent the Department of Energy from implementing its anti-natural gas agenda, they have shown themselves to be complicit.”
The Alaskan Republican continued by remarking “Clearly, the plan to ban gas stoves was already in the works even before federal bureaucrats said the quiet part out loud earlier this year.
Republicans are meeting this attempt to dismantle American energy head on and will continue to empower Americans to choose what appliances belong in their kitchens, not have it dictated to them by a bureaucrat with a political agenda.”
Such a bipartisan display may signal good chances for the bill to pass both chambers of Congress.
