CNN’s new show “CNN This Morning” has become the lowest-rated morning show in nearly a decade.
It appears the show’s hosts, Don Lemon, Kaitlan Collins, and Poppy Harlow, have not managed to connect with their target audience, whoever that is.
The embarrassing new low shows all is not well for the network.
Amid reports earlier this month that Lemon clashed with Collins on the air, it also appears the trio also lack chemistry.
The network’s decision to replace “New Day” with a morning circus was not a good move, it seems. The network has now managed to grind its viewership into the ground with the worst numbers in ten years, The Wrap noted.
The outlet also noted that Lemon, Harlow, and Collins have garnered “the lowest viewership among adults 25-54, the key demographic for cable news, and the second-lowest total viewership among each iteration of the network’s morning programming since ‘New Day’ was launched in June 2013.”
CNN CEO Chris Licht, who replaced former network head Jeff Zucker last year, has attempted to bring the network back to life by experimenting with lineups.
Lemon was pulled off his primetime show, while Licht added comedian Bill Maher in a Friday segment on “CNN Tonight.”
None of it has worked.
The trio has sunk “18.6% in demo viewership as compared to ‘New Day’s’ original launch in 2013, even as total viewership for ‘CNN This Morning’ has increased by 30.2%.”
As The Daily Fetched reported last month, CNN’s average primetime viewership took a nose dive to only 444,000 viewers during the week of January 16:
Between the classified documents scandal, Ukraine, and the roil over House committee seats, CNN had plenty to report on, or should we say ‘spin.’
Meanwhile, Fox News raked in an average of 1.996 million primetime viewers during that week, five times more than CNN.
MSNBC faired better than CNN, attracting nearly a million with 943,000 average primetime viewers.
CNN barely cracked 400,000 with just 417,000 in total day viewers.
