Hamas murdered 1,200 people and took more than 250 people hostage on October 7, 2023.
There are still roughly 130 hostages being held by Hamas.
“Bring them home. Bring them home. Bring them home,” Schumer repeated as the crowd booed.
Schumer recently faced backlash for staying silent on the anti-Israel protests and encampments on college and university campuses throughout the month of April and into early May.
Pro-Israeli protesters described Schumer as being a “traitor,” calling for him to resign after he expressed “faith” in President Joe Biden’s vow to withhold weapons from Israel if they moved forward with an invasion of Rafah.
Newsweek reported: Mark Treyger, the CEO of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC-NY), which organized the annual event, told Newsweek in a statement on Sunday that the organization is “grateful” for the support of top state and U.S. lawmakers.
“JCRC-NY is grateful to have had many New York elected officials, including Senator Chuck Schumer, Governor Kathy Hochul, Congressman Mike Lawler, Congressman Daniel Goldman, Congresswoman Grace Meng, NYC Mayor Eric Adams, Attorney General Letitia James, NYS Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, among others, join us in support of Israel and the release of the hostages,” Treyger said.
Earlier this year, Schumer called for Israel to hold new elections and replace Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, explaining that he had “lost his way.”
However, despite the remarks, Schumer, along with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), signed a letter inviting Netanyahu to speak before a “joint meeting of Congress.”
