Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has claimed that if former president Donald Trump takes back the White House, his second term will be about getting revenge.
Speaking with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, Christie said:
“One, it’ll be a huge personnel problem of people who have no business being in senior positions in the federal government.”
“And then secondly, I think we have to take him at his word.”
“This is gonna be the vendetta presidency,” he added.
The interview segments are due to air Tuesday on ABC News and Good Morning America.”
Christie, who dropped out of his presidential run in January, told Stephanopoulos that his previous support for Trump was a “mistake.”
While the former New Jersey Governor has yet to endorse a candidate in the race, he has been an outspoken criticism of Trump.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said she didn’t want or need Trump’s endorsement recently.
In Tuesday’s interview, Christie said Trump didn’t expect to win the election and was intimidated by the presidency.
“Whether you agree with their policies, these are really solid, experienced people in government,” he said, predicting a second Trump administration would be “mayhem, absolute mayhem.”
“I cannot imagine the crew that he’ll put together,” he said.
Trump remains the clear GOP front-runner leading in the polls, and a rematch with Biden in November is becoming increasingly likely.
Christie admitted that his bid for the 2024 presidential nomination was driven by his desire to prevent a second Trump term.
Trump has frequently slammed Christie, often making fun of his weight.
Trump has said his second term would allow him to strike back at the deep state.
“We’re going to make the country so successful again, I’m not going to have time for retribution,” Trump said during an event in Iowa last month.
“And remember this: Our ultimate retribution is success.”
