A former Australian childcare worker who allegedly sexually abused 91 children, filming it and sharing the content online, has been arrested and is facing 1,623 child sex abuse charges.
The man reportedly preyed on young girls over 15 years at a dozen centers in Australia and distributed content on the dark web.
The former childcare worker was arrested in August 2022 after a year-long investigation into the sex abuse.
The man, 45, has been charged with 136 counts of child rape and 110 counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10, according to a report from ABC.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Queensland and New South Wales state police joined forces in a large-scale investigation that led to the man’s arrest.
Police say the abuse took place in 10 different childcare centers between 2007 and 2022, where the man targeted “prepubescent girls,” some as young as 1 year old.
The accused allegedly filmed “all” his abuse and cataloged more than 4,000 photos and videos.
The man has remained in police custody in Queensland since August 2022 after he was charged with two counts of making child exploitation material and one count of using a carriage service for child abuse material.
Queensland Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath said the allegations were “shocking, horrific, and extremely serious.”
“My thoughts are, of course, with the affected families,” D’Ath said in a statement.
The lawmaker has ordered an urgent briefing of the offender’s approval to work with children.
The case is scheduled for a mention in Brisbane magistrates court later this month.
