The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has erased the term “women” from its recent health guidance for a more “gender inclusive” language.
The removal of the term women can be seen in recommendations for a number of respiratory virus vaccinations for pregnant women.
This includes text in promoting COVID, flu and RSV shots.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, gender-specific terms — including ‘she,’ ‘her,’ ‘women’ and ‘mother’ — were omitted.
The CDC added gender-neutral terms like ‘pregnant people’ and ‘pregnant person’ were used instead.
Doctors slammed the CDC, accusing the health body of ‘cowering to political forces’ at the expense of sound medical advice.
Psychotherapist Stella O’Malley blasted the updated CDC guidance as “dangerous.”
O’Malley said pregnant women are among the most vulnerable, and even those who speak English as a second language would get confused by the terminology.
“There was no need to replace the word ‘woman’ with the words’ pregnant person,'” she said.
“In medical matters, clarity and simplicity should be prioritized so that everyone can understand what is involved,” O’Malley said.
“Some people, especially those for whom English is not a first language, will not understand what is meant by ‘pregnant people’ yet they would readily understand ‘mothers,'” she continued.
“It’s an appalling example of how politics is increasingly interfering with medicine.”
The guidance, which was updated in September, read:
“CDC recommends pregnant people get a flu vaccine by the end of October, although flu vaccination should continue as long as flu is circulating.”
“Getting a flu vaccine by the end of October helps protect pregnant people and their babies before flu activity begins to increase.”
“Pregnant people may receive a flu vaccine during any trimester of pregnancy.”
“The CDC is supposed to be an apolitical bastion of science, but here they are cowering to political forces, a small minority but highly influential entities, who are trying to change language, Orwellian style, to force acceptance of an absurdity,” said Dr. Jane Orient, executive director of AAPS.
“All pregnant persons are women. A trans man is a woman who is trying to alter her body to resemble a man’s.”
“She is endangering her baby’s health if she is taking testosterone. The CDC ought to be warning about that,” Dr. Orient said.
Earlier this year, a London University received backlash after it removed the word ‘woman’ from its maternity policy, declaring “maternity” and “menopause” applied to “all genders.”
As The Daily Fetched reported, free speech campaigners and MPs slammed the University of the Arts London (UAL), accusing it of’ erasing’ women’s experience.
In a LinkedIn post from October 2022, University of the Arts London Vice Chancellor James Purnell wrote:
“At UAL, we are introducing equal parental leave. Every new parent will be entitled to six months at full pay.”
It added, “It is fair to every kind of parent, of whatever gender or sex, or sexual orientation, whether adopting or not.”
