Carjackings in Washington, DC, are up 111% for 2023 as “baffled” police try to understand why the crime is so prevalent in the city.
The news comes weeks after Democrat Representative Cuellar was carjacked in Washington, DC.
Breitbart News reports:
Police appear to not know why carjackings in Washington, DC, dramatically increased 111 percent in the first ten months of 2023 compared to the same time period in 2022, even though authorities refused to prosecute 67 percent of those arrested last year.
A total of 760 carjackings occurred in the first ten months of 2023 in the nation’s capital, police statistics show.
During the same time period in 2022, 360 carjackings occurred.
The number of carjacking in 2023 is higher than in 2018, 2019, and 2020 combined.
Carjackings occur nearly everywhere in the District.
The hot spots are near the H Street Corridor and across the Anacostia River bordering Maryland, police data shows.
Those arrested for jacking cars are primarily below 18 years of age.
Sixty-five percent of those arrested are juveniles, according to police data.
Last month, The Daily Fetched reported that criminal carjackers in Washington were intentionally crashing into unsuspecting drivers to carjack them.
Police now warn the tactic is becoming more widespread as other incidents taking place locally saw unsuspecting drivers have carjackers crashing into them.
“We obviously don’t want people to take matters into their own hands,” Police
“They’re not trained for that we don’t want to see people get hurt,” they added.
The police also told residents to lock their car doors and remain in their cars if they felt endangered before calling 911.
“Go to a well-lit area, maybe somewhere they know there might be cameras out. If they’re feeling at all unease, they can call 911 and have an officer respond, or they can start driving to the police station, and we can help facilitate an information exchange if they’re worried about it at all,” Tarantino said.

However, X users appear to know what the problem is:
Glad to hear Congressman Henry Cuellar is safe. I hope he learns from this carjacking experience and uses it to push his party to reject Soros prosectors, reject the no bail lunacy, reject defund police stupidity and embrace law and order. America needs a SERIOUS crime crackdown!
