Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas personally rejected independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “urgent” for Secret Service protection, according to a bombshell report.
According to a letter dated July 21, 2023, Mayorkas dismissed RFK’s request without explanation.
The letter to Secret Service Director Kimberly A. Cheatle said this:
“On May 26, 2023, candidate for President Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. submitted a request to the Department of Homeland Security for United States Secret Service protection.”
“In accordance with the authority set forth in Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056(a)(7), and in consultation with the Candidate Protection Advisory Committee, I decline to identify candidate Kennedy for United States Secret Service protection at this time.”
The Washington Examiner reported:
“The letter was included in a second batch of records provided to legal watchdog Judicial Watch. It included 99 mostly blank and redacted pages of information.”
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton blasted Mayorkas for his decision:
“It is simply despicable that Secretary Mayorkas refused needed Secret Service protection for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.,” he said.
“That it took a federal FOIA lawsuit to force out this information speaks volumes.”
Mayorkas, currently facing a second impeachment vote in the House, provided little transparency at his agency.
According to the first batch of records the Secret Service provided to Judicial Watch, the Secret Service reviewed Kennedy’s request for security and did not respond.
In one of the 63 pages of mostly redacted emails, a top official concluded that “no response” to Kennedy was needed, “nor should it.”
In October last year, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. asked the Biden administration for a third time to provide him with Secret Service protection after an intruder was arrested twice in one day after trespassing on his home in Los Angeles.
RFK tweeted at the time:
“Yesterday, an intruder climbed the fence at my home and was arrested.”
“After being released from police custody later in the day, he immediately returned to my home and was arrested again.”

Kennedy Jr’s private security firm, Gavin de Becker & Associates, informed the Secret Service about “this specific obsessed individual several times in recent months and shared alarming communications he has sent to the candidate,” according to RFK Jr.’s campaign.
The Kennedy Jr. campaign said in a statement:
“Over the last several months, the campaign submitted formal requests for Secret Service protection, yet U.S. Department of Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas has refused to approve the protection,” the Kennedy Jr. campaign said in a statement.
“Every presidential administration for 55 years has afforded early protection to candidates who requested it. The Biden administration is the sole outlier,” the campaign claimed.
