U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) Faslley claimed that former President Donald Trump devised a “terrorist attack” on January 6, failing to mention he not only called for peaceful protests, but national guard deployment.
“What do you say to an independent voter or an average voter who looks at what’s going on with Donald Trump?” Tapper asked AOC before listing the number of politically motivated civil and criminal cases targeting Trump.
“What do you say to a voter who says, well, that doesn’t look like he’s being treated equally before the law that looks like somebody that the government is going after?”
AOC responded:
“Has there ever been a president, Republican or Democrat, that has been subject to this level of criminal charges, indictments, and investigations?”
“This is not about party. This is not about politics. This is about corruption and criminality.”
“We’re talking about an individual who ordered essentially a terrorist attack on the Capital of the United States in order to retain power.”
Watch
“That, that is not about being a Republican. It is not about being a Democrat. It’s about being an unethical individual who is subject and prone to criminality.”
Ocasio-Cortez has frequently exaggerated the events surrounding the January 6 Capitol protest.
Just days after the incident, she claimed she feared for her life.
“You have all of those thoughts where, at the end of your life, and all of these thoughts come rushing to you. And that’s what happened to a lot of us on Wednesday,” Ocasio-Cortez said at the time.
“I did not know if I was going to make it to the end of that day alive.” She went on to claim that a number of her colleagues and congressional staffers “were almost killed.”
Her over-the-top claims were ultimately debunked after it was revealed that Ocasio-Cortez was not even in the building at the time of the so-called “riot.”
AOC’s Jan 6 rhetoric is a stark contrast to that of the violent Black Lives Matter race riots in 2020.
“The whole point of protesting is to make people uncomfortable,” AOC said of the riots, failing to mention the property damage amounting to billions of dollars, 20 deaths, and the fact that then-president Trump was forced into a bunker.
