Nikki Haley, the former United Nations Ambassador, has received the support of Representative Ralph Norman, a member of the House Freedom Caucus and a top ally of former President Donald Trump, for her presidential campaign in 2024.
Norman, the first South Carolina lawmaker to publicly endorse Haley’s candidacy, stood by his decision despite Trump’s endorsement of his re-election bid for the 2022 midterm elections and his refusal to certify the 2020 election, which underscores his loyalty to Trump.
Norman acknowledged the need for a new direction for the Republican Party, saying it needs a “new vision” at the top of the ticket.
He praised Haley for possessing that vision, stating that she would make an excellent President.
Norman’s endorsement coincides with the anticipated entrance of Senator Tim Scott, another top South Carolina Republican, into the 2024 presidential race.
“In 2016, President Trump was exactly who the Republican Party needed at the time. For too long, Republicans had been marginalized,” Norman told Fox News.
Then Trump came along and reminded us how to fight what we believe. We are better off now for what President Trump accomplished while he was president,” Norman told Fox News.
“However, the Republican Party has entered a season of change. We’re at a pivotal juncture, and most of the Republicans I know are now looking for new leadership with a new vision at the top of the ticket. Nikki Haley has that vision, and she’s going to be an outstanding President,” Norman continued.
Haley and Norman first served together in the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2004, and Norman was the first public official to endorse her bid for governor in 2010.
“You always know exactly where Nikki stands. From her time in the statehouse and as governor, there was never a shred of doubt she would do what she believed was right for the people she served,” Norman added.
“Even as governor, everyone knew she was destined for bigger things,” he said.
According to Norman, Haley’s record as a principled leader who always stands up for what she believes is right, even when it is difficult, has prepared her for bigger things, and he believes that she would make a great President.
Haley announced her presidential candidacy for the 2024 Republican nomination on Tuesday, highlighting her accomplishments as South Carolina’s governor and her commitment to meeting the country’s future needs.
Her official announcement is scheduled for Wednesday in Charleston, South Carolina.
